Like so many veterans and first responders in Caroline County, the late Corporal Lucas Lorenz Nagel (1995-2022) was a son of Maryland, a community-focused person deeply dedicated to service first, and to community over self. Lucas, a veteran of the U.S. Army, deployed twice with the Army Reserves, serving each time at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of the U.S.'s Operation Enduring Freedom. He went on to serve as a Corporal with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, and as a much-valued school resource officer at Federalsburg's Colonel Richardson High School, his alma mater. His life of service from such a young age affected and touched so very many people.
It is only fitting that The Lucas Nagel Memorial Fund for First Responders support programs that provide trauma and mental health support to Caroline County veterans, first responders and their families. The Fund - established in January 2023 by Lucas's family in loving tribute to his memory and his years of service in the U.S. Army and Caroline County Sheriff's Office - can help provide a much-needed lifeline to first responders at times of crisis.
